Master Flowdesk Databases: A Complete Guide to Relational Views
Flowdesk databases are one of our most powerful features — and one of the most underutilized. If you're still using them as simple tables, you're missing out on a project management system that rivals dedicated tools.
Linked Databases 101
The magic starts when you link databases together. Create a "Projects" database and a "Tasks" database, then add a relation property connecting tasks to projects. Now every project page shows its related tasks, and every task knows which project it belongs to.
Rollup Properties
Rollups let you aggregate data from related records. On your Projects database, add a rollup that counts the number of completed tasks, calculates the percentage done, or shows the earliest due date. Your project overview now updates automatically.
Filtered Views
A single database can power dozens of views. Create a "My Tasks" view filtered to your name, a "Due This Week" view filtered by date, and a "Blocked" view filtered by status. Same data, different perspectives.
Pro Tips
Template buttons — Add a template button to your database that pre-fills common field combinations. One click to create a bug report with the right tags, assignee, and priority.
Formula properties — Use formulas to create computed fields like "Days Until Due" or "Is Overdue." These update in real-time and work in filters and sorts.
Linked views — Embed a filtered view of one database inside a page from another database. Your project page can show a live, filtered task list without duplicating any data.
Start with a simple two-database setup and build from there. The relational model clicks once you see it in action.
